What is an Ocular Prosthetic?
Your new eye will be made from a type of acrylic called PMMA. This is a strong and durable medical-grade plastic that is commonly used in a variety of medical applications. It is a material which has a high level of bio compatibility and allows for maximum comfort, appearance, and durability. It’s custom-moulded to fit your socket, polished to a smooth finish, and hand-painted to match your existing eye.
If your eye has not been removed, you will have a scleral shell made. The process is similar to making a prosthetic eye. A scleral shell is a thin acrylic prosthesis that fits over your existing eye. It’s designed to be worn over a non-seeing or smaller eye, and it moves with your existing eye.
